First Thought Fridays: Week 4

                                                                 Baby

If I were lucky enough to have baby
I'm hesitant to say girl or boy, daughter or son
because I don't want to encourage the expectations that society will already be placing onto them.

I will show them my ideals through examples
but never pressure
because no mom is ever 100% right.
So in case I run into trouble understanding how the world works,
I'll make sure that they have a magnifying glass
held firmly between their small hands
so that they have the liberty
to explore all the finer details of the world that I might not be able to show them.

With increasing courage in their heart
that I will constantly be supporting
I will be placing their happiness before my own
letting the door crack open to all the experiences
that I didn't have.
As I was too afraid to convince
the dog to bring me
the key to open my cage.

And as much as I would love to linger
and whisper in their ear for all of their days,
I will understand that their life is theirs to live
and I cannot project myself onto them.
That is another burden that no one should have to carry.

So whether they wear shorts
or skirts,
love men
or women,
none of that should matter.
I will not let the pages of some book determine whether or not my son or daughter is allowed to be happy.
Because that same book says to love one another
which everyone conveniently likes to ignore.

A god
who I intrust all my love and hope into
creates everything in his light
so who they love cannot be wrong.

My child will stand strong and tall
because I won't let the ignorance of out world
invade them.
I will not fight all their battles
because they will have a wonderful grasp of life
because  I will not tell them that the sky is the limit
or to reach for the stars
that they are obviously to short to ever grasp.
But I will show them how to build each step
one by one
until they won't need the sky or the stars as guidelines.

As they will be rising far above with the stairway still intact
in case they need to run back to Earth to Mommy
Where I'll be waiting for them with open arms and treats
until they are ready to be sent on their way.

First Thought Fridays: Week 3

Imaginary Part 2

Smile on the outside
you aren't invisible

the world knows who you are
its waiting for you to reach out
and pluck you up.

Smile on the outside
let your brightness penetrate
every corner
every crevice
every skin cell

soul black
soul bright
put down the razor
smile on the outside
you aren't invisible

Imaginary Part 1

Ideally
you would be here.
Surrounded by nature.
Snapbacks lay forgotten
in the corner of our blankets
hiding out interwined hands from the world
Smile darling,
we all need protection sometimes...
